Head Spa in Bangkok (2026): Japanese-Style Head Spa vs Thai Head Massage, Prices and Where to Go

Head spas are one of the fastest-growing wellness treatments in Asia. Korea's JoongAng Daily reported in January 2026 that Klook's traffic for head spa products grew 230% in 2025, driven by short videos of scalp "waterfalls" and people falling asleep mid-treatment. Bangkok has its own versions, from Japanese-style head spas with shampoo and steam to the traditional Thai head massage. Here's what each one is and what it costs, with prices from each place's own website or official page, checked in October 2026.
Head spa or head massage: what's the difference?
- Japanese or Korean-style head spa: usually starts with a scalp check (sometimes with a camera), then cleansing or exfoliating the scalp, a long scalp massage, a warm water or carbonated rinse, often steam, and finally a treatment and blow-dry. Sessions run 60–120 minutes. Your hair gets washed.
- Thai or "oriental" head massage: a dry treatment with acupressure on the head, neck and shoulders, sometimes with oil. No washing. Shorter and cheaper, and very relaxing.
- Head spa with facial: many spas combine the two in one ritual, often in a couples' suite.
Head spa and head massage prices in Bangkok (2026)
- Wat Pho's Tha Tien Riverside branch: oriental head massage ฿640 for 60 minutes, or ฿900 with oil.
- Wanpho Massage & Wellness (run by Wat Pho): "Scalp & Mind Rebalance" head therapy ฿900/1,350/1,800 for 60/90/120 minutes (dry technique), or ฿1,200/1,800/2,400 with oil. Facial and head massage ฿1,900 for 90 minutes. Open 09:00–20:00.
- Yunomori Onsen & Spa (Sukhumvit 26 and Sathorn Soi 10): "Deep Sleep Head Massage" ฿700 for 60 minutes, or from ฿1,300 combined with the onsen baths. A dry head massage, no shampoo.
- The House of Pridi by Loft Thai Spa (Sukhumvit 71, near BTS Phra Khanong): Classic Head Spa ฿1,400 for 75 minutes, Hair & Facial Spa Ritual ฿2,500 for 90 minutes, Signature Scalp & Facial Spa ฿3,900 for 120 minutes in a couples' suite. Japanese-style, with Aesop products; by appointment.
For comparison, a Japanese-style head spa in Seoul costs around ₩200,000 (about US$136) for 90 minutes, according to the same JoongAng Daily report, so Bangkok is good value.
Where to go
- For a proper Japanese-style head spa with shampoo and steam: The House of Pridi by Loft Thai Spa. Book ahead on WhatsApp (+66 63 487 2308), LINE or online; opening hours vary between sources, so confirm when you book.
- For a sleepy head massage after the baths: Yunomori Onsen, open until late, good on the last evening of a trip.
- For a traditional Thai version near the Grand Palace: Wat Pho's Tha Tien Riverside branch or Wanpho Massage & Wellness.
- In Silom: Chandee Sleep Salon & Massage, a "sleep salon" open 10:00–23:00 (tel. 082 539 9908, on LINE as @chandee). Ask about head treatments when you book.
Tips before you book
- Ask whether your hair will be washed. If you want the Japanese-style experience, look for "head spa" with shampoo, rinse and blow-dry, not just "head massage".
- Allow time for drying: a head spa ends with a blow-dry, but you may want to avoid booking right before dinner if you care about your hair.
- Tell the therapist about scalp conditions, recent hair colouring, or sensitivity to fragrance.
- Head spas are often booked out in the evening. Book a day or two ahead, especially for couples' suites.
- A head massage combines well with a foot massage, a good choice if you don't want to change clothes for a full-body massage.
