Foot Massage in Bangkok: Thai Reflexology Explained

Updated

After a day of walking Bangkok's temples, markets and malls, nothing beats a Thai foot massage. It's quick, affordable and available on almost every street.

What is Thai foot massage?

Thai foot massage is based on reflexology: the therapist works pressure points on your feet and lower legs with thumbs, knuckles and a small wooden stick, usually with a balm or cream. You stay clothed, sitting in a reclining chair, with your trousers rolled up to the knee.

How long and how much?

Sessions usually last 30 or 60 minutes. It's generally the cheapest massage on the menu, and many people combine it with a 30-minute neck and shoulder massage.

Is it painful?

Some pressure points can be sensitive, especially if you've been walking a lot. Say "bao bao" (gentle) if it's too much.

Where to go

Sukhumvit around Asok and Nana has the most choice, and mall-based spas like Let's Relax at Terminal 21 are an easy option right on the BTS. See our foot massage listings for more.
